This Afro-American spiritual has been arranged in a traditional, yet exciting new a cappella setting. Following the powerful choral introduction, the melody is taken up by a baritone soloist, who also finishes off the piece. Each stanza is treated in a different manner appropriate to the content of the text: sharp harmonies illustrate the Savior's agony, a hushed ostinato portrays the anticipation of the women as they came to the tomb, and a key change along with borrowed-tone harmonies radiate the excitement of the resurrection. Perfect for Easter morning and Lord’s Supper services. This anthem is also available in French (Français) and German (Deutsch).
